1970's Bohemian Glass + Brass Chandelier

Salvaged from a grand hotel foyer in Prague—then part of former Czechoslovakia—this opulent 1970's glass and brass chandelier is a striking example of the region’s celebrated Bohemian glassmaking tradition. Mid-century Czechoslovakia was home to some of Europe’s most accomplished glass manufacturers, many operating under state-run collectives such as Železnobrodské Sklo, Kamenický Šenov, and Lustry N.P., all known for producing architectural lighting for public buildings, hotels, and state institutions. This vintage glass chandelier displays the hallmarks of that era: sculptural forms, luxurious brass, and meticulous pressed-glass craftsmanship.

Six large hand-moulded glass globes encircle the frame, each featuring a diamond-textured surface that creates a bright, dispersed glow when illuminated. The glass is typical of Bohemian pressed-crystal techniques of the period—bold patterns, exceptional clarity, and a jewel-like refraction of light.

Polished brass arms extend from a solid central hub, giving the chandelier a dramatic geometric presence. A vertical run of four smaller decorative glass spheres adorns the central rod, adding balance and further emphasising the chandelier’s sculptural silhouette.

Carefully restored and retaining all its original components, this chandelier encapsulates the glamour of 1970's Eastern European design—an era that blended modernism with ornate detail, and elevated hotel and public-space lighting into true statement art.
