Large German Copper Cargo Ceiling Light

Crafted in 1960s East Germany by VEB Leuchtenbau Wittenberg, this large copper pendant light was originally designed for use aboard cargo ships — built to withstand the demanding conditions of marine environments. Today, it has been meticulously restored by hand in the UK by Loomlight, bringing new life to a piece of industrial history.

The main body is spun from solid copper, creating a striking, highly polished surface that reflects both craftsmanship and durability. Below, a machine-made glass bezel is secured by precision-engineered quick-release levers, allowing easy access to the internal components. A cast iron bracket provides robust suspension, while the adjustable tilt mechanism enables directional lighting — allowing the beam to be angled or focused from a broad wash of light to a precise spotlight.

Retaining its original serial numbers and embossed specification markings, this pendant bears authentic details from its working past, making each piece unique. Its generous scale and sculptural form make it particularly suited to large ceiling voids or vaulted spaces, such as barn conversions or open-plan industrial interiors, where it can be appreciated as a statement feature.

Every fixture is professionally restored and rewired in-house by Loomlight to exceed British safety standards, using CE-approved components. For orders to the USA, UL-listed lamp holders are supplied. Dimensions and weights are approximate.
