Vintage Nikon 20×120 ‘Big Eye’ Military Binoculars with Tripod

DESCRIPTION

A rare and exceptional example of Japanese optical engineering, these restored Nikon 20×120 “Big Eye” binoculars were originally manufactured by Nippon Kogaku (now Nikon) in the late 1960s–1970s for military field use and long-range observation.

Professionally restored and polished to a mirror finish, this impressive instrument is paired with a heavy-duty hardwood field tripod, creating a striking centrepiece for interiors, private collections, superyachts or architectural viewing platforms for coastal properties. Fitted with custom-made brass sunshades and yolk, the binoculars retain all their original mechanical integrity while gaining a refined sculptural presence.

With 20× magnification and 120 mm objective lenses, the optics deliver exceptional clarity and depth. Each eyepiece features individual diopter focus, and interpupillary distance is smoothly adjustable via a linked mechanism. All internal lenses and prisms are clean and bright, offering the razor-sharp performance these binoculars were known for when deployed in the field.

Imported directly from a private collector in Japan, this model (serial number 4120299) is an authentic Mark II example of Nikon’s legendary large-format binocular series – built for ship bridges, coastal defence and astronomical observation.
