Thorlux Green Enamel Factory Pendant Light

Salvaged from the now-demolished Fawley Power Station on the Hampshire coast, this original 1950's Thorlux green enamel pendant light spent more than five decades illuminating the site’s vast boiler house — a space once dominated by heat, machinery and the rhythmic pulse of Britain’s post-war energy production.

Manufactured by Thorlux, one of the UK’s most respected industrial lighting companies, the industrial lamp reflect the brand’s mid-century engineering ethos: durable, precisely built, and designed to withstand the extreme temperatures and vibrations found within power generation facilities. Founded in 1936 by Frederick Thorpe, Thorlux quickly gained a reputation for high-quality enamelled lighting, supplying factories, workshops, mills and power stations across Britain throughout the 1940s–60s. This model — with its narrow dome form and distinctive venting — is a classic example of their early post-war output.

The industrial fixture features an original vented steel shade finished in a soft green enamel, a colour typical of 1950's light fittings designed to reduce glare and soften the workspace environment. The upper polished aluminium gallery, stamped with the original Thorlux markings, adds to its authenticity and was engineered to dissipate heat while providing robust mechanical support.

Decades of service have left a gentle, honest patina to the enamel — subtle surface wear that tells the story of its working life inside one of the UK’s most recognisable power stations. Every component remains original and has been sensitively preserved, ensuring the integrity of the design while preparing it for safe modern use.

With a 265mm diameter, this pendant light is ideal for downlighting over kitchen counters, breakfast bars, studios, or above desks where focused, characterful illumination is needed.
